The Center for Collaborative Research on Historical Resources was newly established in FY2025. The Center aims to establish new historiographical research by integrating and upgrading the vast amount of meta-information contained in historical documents and the historical knowledge information accumulated in the course of compilation projects. Based on the premise of interdisciplinary fusion and collaboration with other institutions, the Center will actively develop DX and other forms of archival research to create collaborative and comprehensive knowledge.

The crisis of loss of archives has increased dramatically due to the devastating effects of disasters and depopulation, etc. We must not only consolidate and visualize the archival knowledge and experience accumulated over the past 150 years, but also strengthen our efforts for the long-term preservation of cultural properties and academic resources by deepening cooperation with various institutions both within and outside of the university. It is also imperative that we develop useful human resources with an eye to the future.

Another major task is to upgrade the existing historical information processing system (SHIPS) to create an inclusive environment that can be accessed by anyone in the world, and to strongly disseminate and share the comprehensive results of this project.
